Mel Wallis was born in St. Louis, Missouri and moved to the northwest in 1972 to complete an MFA degree at the University of Oregon in Eugene. After completing the degree he moved with his family to Washington state. Since then his career has continued to be an active one as a sculptor, ceramist and teacher. In recent years he has exhibited regionally and nationally and describes his work as an alchemy of natural elements crafted into eclectic compliments, often miror images as in real life, and sometimes using transformations from functional design.
